Irene Afful

A senior facilitator and D&I specialist, Irene has had a hugely successful career including becoming the first ever black female Detective Inspector in the history of Merseyside Police. Her career incorporated Critical Incident Management, Professional Standards, Child Protection, Community Engagement and Serious Crime. Advancing equality on the national stage, Irene was also actively involved in the Women’s Network and Part Time & Flexible Workers Network during this time. 


After moving on from the police, Irene now specialises in the field of diversity, equality & inclusion, supporting businesses and individuals across a vast range of sectors to be more effective by offering a variety of tools, bespoke workshops, personal and group coaching and consultancy services which include:


• Embedding Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace

• Unconscious bias and positions of privilege workshops

• Professional coaching (individual & group)

• Leadership development & employee engagement


Irene holds a Master’s degree in Police Leadership and is a published author of academic research concerning equality, diversity & inclusion. 


Irene is also a highly sought-after keynote speaker, performing at an array of business and educational events. She is also a TEDx speaker.
