CASE STUDY:

One to One Executive Coaching for Not-for-Profit CEO

Verosa was commissioned to support the CEO of this not-for-profit organisation and her management team through a range of targeted culture change, learning events and activities. We supported the organisation in its move to becoming a more agile operation, based on a culture of trust and commitment to the highest standards of behaviours and performance.

The senior team comprised managers and leaders of varying background and experience. Many had background as technical specialists and subject matter experts and included lawyers, accountants and public sector careerists.  Leading teams of volunteers was commonly a new experience and the challenging context of their work (homelessness, domestic violence, bankruptcy) brought additional demands to their roles. In addition a legacy of inconsistent standards of and methods for advice delivery had led to some silo working and a culture of miscommunication and disconnect at a senior level.

Through a programme of targeted interventions including Appreciative Enquiry, Workshop Delivery, Comms Strategy support and 1:1 and team coaching, this transformative piece resulted in some pivotal changes to the way the organisation supports its clients.

We provided a one to one executive coaching programme for the CEO, which included psychometric analysis (Enneagram) for her and strengths profiling and exercises to help assess the skills and training needs of her senior team and Culture Index Assessment across the broader population.

The Discovery phase of this piece also included the delivery of our Strategic Planning workshop – an online interactive workshop which supports participants to think creatively and also strategically about the challenges they face.  The workshop comprised reflective and participative exercises, including real-play and live, ‘challenge spotlighting’ to help delegates think widely and creatively about their situations.

A specific requirement for this client was for a cultural move towards increased people engagement – a particular challenge across organisations that are based on the currency of voluntary effort and good-will. The Verosa team ran a series of team coaching sessions for the senior team, supporting and increasing their ability to engage and motivate teams of volunteers and further, to provide a higher-quality advisory service to customers. Learning in this part of the programme also focussed around the delivery of Team Motivation and Client Handling masterclasses for the management team.

Finally, given the COVID19 context we also delivered a series of Resilience and Wellbeing training days to support the organisation’s senior leaders in managing their own wellbeing and that of those in their teams in challenging circumstances. This offering was delivered remotely using the Zoom platform and was supported by pre-work, online articles and worksheets.

All online workshops and training events were led by a senior Verosa facilitator, using a series of PowerPoint slides, survey tools, group discussion, demonstration, individual reflective exercises, real-play and action planning.

The online culture change package including workshops, training and coaching were all received very well, with participants making significant changes and improvements to day to day operations, inter-organisational communication, levels of clarity, management styles and team outcomes.

In the words of one participant:

Working with Verosa excellent! I found it really interesting. I'm always looking at ways to develop and improve myself and my team and there were lots of useful techniques and explanations about why we respond to certain things the way we do. The change work was fascinating, I could completely relate to it and use it in my work
